Descripción:: The purpose of this article is to dialogue with political tensions involving the final phase of theTriple Alliance campaign and the post-war scenario (1869-1874), analyzing the Argentine claimin the Chaco region through an expansionist plan by General Miter. The work addresses GeneralMiter's strategic plan to equalize military forces and militarily occupy the Chaco region. The resultsobserve the dispense participation of the Brazilian imperial government, involving numerousdiplomatic attempts and geopolitical tensions to the issue. After the siege of Cerro-Corá and thedeath of López, what he considered to be the end of the war, became just one of several episodesto come. The work is based on documentary research and bibliographic review, serving as thebasis for the registration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of War. The possessionof the Chaco region and its dealings went through a long diplomatic journey, to which the TripleAlliance Treaty served as the basis and guiding pillar of the negotiations for the definitive peaceagreement.; O presente artigo tem por finalidade dialogar com as tensões políticas envolvendo a fase final dacampanha da Tríplice Aliança e o cenário do pós-guerra (1869-1874), analisando a pretensãoArgentina na região do Chaco através de um plano expansionista do general Mitre. O trabalhoaborda o plano estratégico do general Mitre em equalizar as forças militares e ocuparmilitarmente a região do Chaco. Os resultados observam a dispendiosa participação do governoimperial brasileiro, envolvendo inúmeras tentativas diplomáticas e tensões geopolíticas àquestão. Após o cerco a Cerro-Corá e a morte de López, o que considerava em ser o fim daguerra, tornou-se apenas mais um dos vários episódios que estavam por vir. O trabalho sefundamenta através da pesquisa documental e revisão bibliográfica, servindo como base oregistro do Ministério das Relações Exteriores e do Ministério da Guerra. A posse da região doChaco e suas tratativas atravessaram uma longa jornada diplomática, ao qual o Tratado daTríplice Aliança servia como base e pilar norteador das tratativas do acordo definitivo de paz.Palavras-chave: Guerra do Paraguai.
