Descripción:: A Guerra das Falklands foi um dos conflitos mais marcantes da década de 80 do século passado. Protagonizado pela Argentina e pelo Reino Unido, de abril a junho de 1982, consistiu na luta pela soberania do arquipélago das Falklands. Por um lado, a vontade de os argentinos reivindicarem um arquipélago considerado seu; por outro, a necessidade estratégica britânica em recuperar o controlo de um local remoto e longínquo. Eis duas forças aqui presentes que, através de um conflito armado, originaram uma crise internacional que, consequentemente, colocou o mundo em alerta e em crescentes preocupações. Da perspetiva da comunidade internacional, a Guerra das Falklands revelou-se, em todos os aspetos, uma das campanhas mais ambiciosas e marcantes para o Reino Unido, uma vez que colocou à prova a capacidade de um país projetar, num curto espaço de tempo, uma força operacional anfíbia e sustentá-la a grandes distâncias durante um período indeterminado – um dos maiores desafios logísticos que a história militar moderna tem para nos oferecer. O Apoio de Serviços em Combate é um tema amplamente abordado e detalhado ao longo desta dissertação, revelando as razões pelas quais determinados aspetos da componente tática da guerra fracassaram. A dissertação pretende enaltecer o impacto que o planeamento logístico tem nas operações militares, em paralelo com a componente tática. Antes do início da guerra, poucos acreditavam que o Reino Unido seria capaz de contornar as dificuldades logísticas inerentes à distância que o separava das Falklands. A princípio, o próprio governo britânico pôs em causa as suas capacidades. On one hand, there was the will of Argentina to claim this archipelago as hers; on the other hand, the British strategic need to recover the control over a remote and huge distant place. Here we have two distinct forces that, throughout an armed conflict, have led to an international crisis – and consequently put the world in warning and growing concerns. From the international community viewpoint, the Falklands War revealed to be in every detail one of the most ambitious and important British campaigns, as it demanded the ability a nation should have, in a very short time, to dispatch an amphibious operating force and to sustain it in a so huge distance and for an unknown period of time – this is one of the major logistics challenges the modern military history offers us. The present thesis widely discusses and details the subject of the Combat Service Support and shows the reasons why certain aspects of the tactical warfare component have not been well succeeded. The purpose of this essay is to emphasize the impact the logistic planning as upon military operations, along with the tactical component. Before the beginning of the war, very few could believe the United Kingdom would be able to turn around the logistic difficulties they would have to face due to the long distance between it and the Falklands. At first, the British government itself questioned its competence for the task. But the Thatcher’s government, the British Prime-Minister, no doubt proved the opposite.

From April to June 1982, Argentina and the United Kingdom have struggled for the supremacy of the Falklands. On one hand, there was the will of Argentina to claim this archipelago as hers; on the other hand, the British strategic need to recover the control over a remote and huge distant place. Here we have two distinct forces that, throughout an armed conflict, have led to an international crisis – and consequently put the world in warning and growing concerns. From the international community viewpoint, the Falklands War revealed to be in every detail one of the most ambitious and important British campaigns, as it demanded the ability a nation should have, in a very short time, to dispatch an amphibious operating force and to sustain it in a so huge distance and for an unknown period of time – this is one of the major logistics challenges the modern military history offers us. The present thesis widely discusses and details the subject of the Combat Service Support and shows the reasons why certain aspects of the tactical warfare component have not been well succeeded. The purpose of this essay is to emphasize the impact the logistic planning as upon military operations, along with the tactical component. Before the beginning of the war, very few could believe the United Kingdom would be able to turn around the logistic difficulties they would have to face due to the long distance between it and the Falklands. At first, the British government itself questioned its competence for the task. But the Thatcher’s government, the British Prime-Minister, no doubt proved the opposite. </ subfield >
