Descripción:: Born into oligarchic families with a strong political influence in the country's life, Marshal José Pessoa Cavalcanti de Albuquerque became one of the main military leaders of the 1930s and 1940s. Due to his values, which made him one of the perfect models of soldier and military leader to be followed by members of the Institution, he is part of the pantheon of personalities who are revered within the Brazilian Army. Making use of the data showed in his PhD thesis, which is the result of an exhaustive biographical research about the life of José Pessoa, this author intends to approach the military training of José Pessoa, albeit in broad terms, his military trajectory as a junior officer in the Brazilian Army and his participation in the First World War, when he was assigned to the 4th Regiment of Dragons of the French Army.; Nascido no seio de famílias oligárquicas de forte influência política na vida do País, o Marechal José Pessoa Cavalcanti de Albuquerque tornou-se uma das principais lideranças militares das décadas de 1930 e 1940. Encontra-se, assim, no panteão das personalidades militares cultuadas pelo Exército Brasileiro, por ter portado valores que o tornaram um dos modelos ideais de soldado e de chefe militar a serem seguidos pelos integrantes da Instituição. Valendo-se de dados apresentados em sua tese de doutoramento, resultado de uma exaustiva pesquisa biográfica a respeito da vida desse militar, este autor pretende abordar, neste artigo, ainda que em largos termos, a formação militar de José Pessoa, a sua trajetória militar como oficial subalterno do Exército Brasileiro e a sua participação na Primeira Guerra Mundial, quando esteve incorporado no 4º Regimento de Dragões do Exército francês.
