Descripción:: O projeto de investigação e de elaboração de uma dissertação de mestrado, subordinada ao tema “A formação de marinheiros na Armada Portuguesa (1851–1910)”, que ora se sintetiza, tem como objetivo primordial responder à questão de saber como se processava, há cerca de um século e meio, a transformação de gente indiferenciada, nem sempre com ligações às atividades marítimas, em verdadeiros marinheiros (praças), integrados na Marinha de Guerra, através da formação e do adestramento prático que lhes era ministrado, primeiro no Corpo de Marinheiros da Armada e, ulterior e sucessivamente, também na Escola Prática de Artilharia Naval, na Escola de Alunos Marinheiros, na Escola e Serviço de Torpedos e em outros contextos (nomeadamente, nos navios em que embarcavam). Para alcançar essa finalidade de estudo, procurou-se conhecer a organização e funcionamento dessas entidades militares-navais, o modo como se concebia e concretizava a instrução e o ensino desenvolvido nas mesmas – os conteúdos programáticos que orientavam as aprendizagens, os meios disponíveis (recursos humanos, infraestruturas, navios e equipamentos) – mas, principalmente, a situação dos instruendos e alunos-marinheiros e o contributo das organizações visadas para o serviço da Armada, no período que medeia entre a criação do Corpo de Marinheiros (1851) e o final do regime monárquico (1910). Complementarmente, abordaram-se, em breves traços gerais, os modos e processos do recrutamento militar-naval à época e ainda o processo de introdução de novas tecnologias na formação naval (tais como torpedos e artilharia mais avançada). Para atingir estes objetivos, foram pesquisadas e estudadas fontes como a legislação régia aplicável às entidades visadas e alguma documentação arquivística, bem como consultada a bibliografia pertinente, no âmbito da qual sobressaem, em termos qualitativos e quantitativos, artigos publicados à época nos Anais do Clube Militar Naval.; The project of research and writing of a MSc dissertation thesis, according to the subject “The qualification of sailors in the Portuguese Navy (1851-1910)”, which is here synthetized, has as a purpose the answer to the question of how was the process, about a century and a half ago, and transformation ofunqualified people, who didn’t always have a connection to maritime activities, into true sailors, integrated in the Navy, through the qualification and practical studies which were learned and trained, first in the Sailors Corps of the Navy and, further in time, also in the Practical School of the Navy’s Artillery, in the School for Student Sailors, in the Torpedo’s School and Service and in other contexts (such as, in the ships where they sailed). 10. < description > The project of research and writing of a MSc dissertation thesis, according to the subject “The qualification of sailors in the Portuguese Navy (1851-1910)”, which is here synthetized, has as a purpose the answer to the question of how was the process, about a century and a half ago, and transformation ofunqualified people, who didn’t always have a connection to maritime activities, into true sailors, integrated in the Navy, through the qualification and practical studies which were learned and trained, first in the Sailors Corps of the Navy and, further in time, also in the Practical School of the Navy’s Artillery, in the School for Student Sailors, in the Torpedo’s School and Service and in other contexts (such as, in the ships where they sailed). To reach the goal of this enquiry, it was sought to understand the organization and functioning of these military and naval entities, the way in which the education was conceived, the contents of the various programs which followed the learning, the means available (human resources, infrastructures, ships and equipment), but most importantly, the situation of the recruits and students and the contributions of the organizations targeted for the service within the navy, throughout the period between the creation of the Sailors Corps of the Navy (1851) and the end of the monarchy (1910). It was further examined the ways and processes in which the recruitment of sailors in that era, and also of the process of integration of new technologies in the qualification of navy personnel (such as torpedoes and increasingly advanced artillery) To attain these goals, there was a thorough examination of sources such as royal laws applicable to the aforementioned entities and some archive documentation, and consulted the relevant bibliography, in which stands out, both in terms of quantity and quality, the articles published during the time in the Annals of the Military Navy Club </ description >

        < field name =" value " > O projeto de investigação e de elaboração de uma dissertação de mestrado, subordinada ao tema “A formação de marinheiros na Armada Portuguesa (1851–1910)”, que ora se sintetiza, tem como objetivo primordial responder à questão de saber como se processava, há cerca de um século e meio, a transformação de gente indiferenciada, nem sempre com ligações às atividades marítimas, em verdadeiros marinheiros (praças), integrados na Marinha de Guerra, através da formação e do adestramento prático que lhes era ministrado, primeiro no Corpo de Marinheiros da Armada e, ulterior e sucessivamente, também na Escola Prática de Artilharia Naval, na Escola de Alunos Marinheiros, na Escola e Serviço de Torpedos e em outros contextos (nomeadamente, nos navios em que embarcavam). Para alcançar essa finalidade de estudo, procurou-se conhecer a organização e funcionamento dessas entidades militares-navais, o modo como se concebia e concretizava a instrução e o ensino desenvolvido nas mesmas – os conteúdos programáticos que orientavam as aprendizagens, os meios disponíveis (recursos humanos, infraestruturas, navios e equipamentos) – mas, principalmente, a situação dos instruendos e alunos-marinheiros e o contributo das organizações visadas para o serviço da Armada, no período que medeia entre a criação do Corpo de Marinheiros (1851) e o final do regime monárquico (1910). Complementarmente, abordaram-se, em breves traços gerais, os modos e processos do recrutamento militar-naval à época e ainda o processo de introdução de novas tecnologias na formação naval (tais como torpedos e artilharia mais avançada). Para atingir estes objetivos, foram pesquisadas e estudadas fontes como a legislação régia aplicável às entidades visadas e alguma documentação arquivística, bem como consultada a bibliografia pertinente, no âmbito da qual sobressaem, em termos qualitativos e quantitativos, artigos publicados à época nos Anais do Clube Militar Naval. </ field >
        
        < field name =" value " > The project of research and writing of a MSc dissertation thesis, according to the subject “The qualification of sailors in the Portuguese Navy (1851-1910)”, which is here synthetized, has as a purpose the answer to the question of how was the process, about a century and a half ago, and transformation ofunqualified people, who didn’t always have a connection to maritime activities, into true sailors, integrated in the Navy, through the qualification and practical studies which were learned and trained, first in the Sailors Corps of the Navy and, further in time, also in the Practical School of the Navy’s Artillery, in the School for Student Sailors, in the Torpedo’s School and Service and in other contexts (such as, in the ships where they sailed). To reach the goal of this enquiry, it was sought to understand the organization and functioning of these military and naval entities, the way in which the education was conceived, the contents of the various programs which followed the learning, the means available (human resources, infrastructures, ships and equipment), but most importantly, the situation of the recruits and students and the contributions of the organizations targeted for the service within the navy, throughout the period between the creation of the Sailors Corps of the Navy (1851) and the end of the monarchy (1910). It was further examined the ways and processes in which the recruitment of sailors in that era, and also of the process of integration of new technologies in the qualification of navy personnel (such as torpedoes and increasingly advanced artillery) To attain these goals, there was a thorough examination of sources such as royal laws applicable to the aforementioned entities and some archive documentation, and consulted the relevant bibliography, in which stands out, both in terms of quantity and quality, the articles published during the time in the Annals of the Military Navy Club </ field >
