Descripción:: This article give us a vision of one of our founding fathers, Bernardo O’Higgins Riquelme, who lead the rst years of the government of the new Chilean Republic, as well as on the fact that his thoughts and ideas are still in force. Most of his ideas were executed during his government, others were only made known or were developed by others throughout these 200 years of independence, and some of them are still pending. Through this article the author pretends both, to demonstrate the modern and wise thought of O’Higgins during his government, and to re ect on the force of his thought and his ideas that are still not thoroughly developed.; Este trabajo entrega una visión sobre uno de nuestros padres de la patria, don Bernardo O’Higgins Riquelme al que le tocó liderar los primeros años del gobierno de la naciente república cuyo pensamiento y obras aún perduran. Muchas de sus ideas cristalizaron durante su gobierno, otras solo alcanzaron a difundirse o fueron desarrolladas por otros en el devenir de estos doscientos años de vida independiente y algunas aún se puede decir que se encuentran pendientes. A través de él, el autor pretende mostrar el pensamiento ilustrado y moderno de O’Higgins durante su gobierno y hacer una re exión nal sobre la vigencia de este y de las ideas que aún no se han desarrollado totalmente.
